My tips on the neighbourhood

Forget the “tourist traps”. Here’s where I go for breakfast,
where I take my friends for dinner, and the art spots
I love most in Borgo San Paolo.

Let me introduce you to
BORGO SAN PAOLO IN TURIN

Borgo San Paolo is a lively neighbourhood with a strong character. Once the beating heart of industrial Turin, it has now become a vibrant cultural hub, nestled between the OGR and the Sandretto Foundation.

60 90 PIZZA A PORTAFOGLIO

If you’re looking for a pizza that combines Neapolitan tradition with a modern approach to ingredients, 60 90 is a little hidden gem in the neighbourhood. It’s the ideal spot for those who appreciate quality and a light, easy-to-digest dough with that typical soft crust.
Must-try specialities: Pizza a Portafoglio: Perfect for a quick snack or whilst out for a stroll, this is the classic pizza folded into quarters, just like in the narrow streets of Naples. For those who prefer, the classic version in a cardboard box is also available. Vegan Options: Unlike the usual offerings, here you’ll find truly delicious and creative vegan options.
⚠️ Important note for dining: The venue is primarily designed for takeaway. There are no tables for traditional dining, but there are two counters with stools for those who wish to eat quickly on the premises in a casual, youthful atmosphere.

Aldo’s Bakery is the perfect blend of traditional artisan baking and that modern twist that makes you want to try everything!

BOCCIOFILA LA MONTAGNOLA

If you want to enjoy a 100% authentic Piedmontese experience, Trattoria Bocciofila La Montagnola is a must-visit. Located just a stone’s throw from Casa Femi, it is the ideal choice for anyone looking for a traditional dinner without having to travel too far.
What is a “Bocciofila”? In Italy, and particularly in Turin, the bocciofila originated as a sports club dedicated to the game of bocce. Historically, they have been places for social gathering where different generations come together. Today, many of them house excellent trattorias where you can eat “just like at home”, with generous portions, fair prices and a convivial, simple and very warm atmosphere.
The menu features the great classics of the Turin and Piedmontese traditions.
Absolute Convenience: It is located on Via San Paolo, practically “just round the corner” from Casa Femi. It is the perfect solution for those who want to enjoy a relaxed evening without the stress of public transport or parking.

📍 Address: Via San Paolo, 26, Turin. 🕒 Opening hours: Open Tuesday to Saturday: 12:00 – 14:30 / 19:30 – 23:30. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.

CANTINONE SAN PAOLO

If you’re looking for the warmth of a family dinner and the authentic flavours of Piedmontese cuisine, Cantinone San Paolo is a must-visit. This historic trattoria welcomes you into a simple, homely setting, where the friendly service and quality ingredients will make you feel right at home.
Here you can sample the signature dishes of the Savoyard tradition, prepared according to time-honoured recipes. From fresh pasta dishes to carefully cooked meat main courses, every dish is a tribute to the local region. You simply cannot leave the table without trying their homemade desserts. In particular, their zabaglione cream is famous among regulars: thick, velvety and intensely flavoured, it is the perfect way to round off a meal. It is the ideal spot for those who shy away from tourist traps and are looking for an authentic, convivial experience, filled with conversation, good wine and generous portions.

📍 Address: Via Vigone, 24, Turin. 🕒 Opening hours: Open on Wednesdays (7.30pm–11.00pm); Thursday to Saturday (12.30pm–3.00pm/7.30pm–11.00pm); Sunday (12.00pm–3.00pm/7.30pm–11.00pm). Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

DA CANDIDO

Da Candido is the ideal choice. It’s the perfect place for those who love thin, crispy pizza.
What you absolutely must try:
For a 100% Turin experience, try the ‘pizza al padellino’. It’s cooked in small circular moulds, resulting in a thicker, softer base with a delicious golden crust around the edges.
You can’t leave without trying their excellent chickpea farinata. It’s thin, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

📍 Indirizzo: 📍 Address: Via Monginevro, 61, Turin. 🕒 Opening hours: Open Tuesday to Saturday (12:00 – 15:00 / 19:00 – 24:00) and Sunday (19:00 – 24:00). Closed on Mondays.

DA GINO PIZZERIA

A true historic institution in the neighbourhood. Forget modern, designer eateries: here, the atmosphere is that of Turin’s pizzerias from fifty years ago, with a simple, authentic and no-frills setting, where substance matters far more than appearance.
House specialities: Pizza al Tegamino (or Padellino): This is the absolute speciality. Cooked in small iron pans, it is soft on the inside and deliciously crispy on the base, just as Turin’s purest tradition dictates. Legendary Farinata: Many Turin locals come here specifically for the farinata. Thin, golden and cooked to perfection, it is considered one of the best in the area.
Why choose it: It is the perfect place for those looking for a quick, affordable and authentic meal. Stepping into Gino’s means breathing in the atmosphere of the working-class neighbourhoods of yesteryear, welcomed by swift, informal service that will make you feel instantly part of the city.

DUMPLING MOM

If you’re staying at Casa Femi and in the mood for Asian food, I highly recommend Dumpling Mom. As the name suggests, their absolute speciality is Chinese dumplings, made from scratch and hand-sealed one by one. The thin wrappers and flavourful fillings range from the great classics to more creative options (the vegetarian dishes are also excellent).

📍 Address: Corso Peschiera, 166/a, Turin. 🕒 Opening hours: Open Tuesday to Sunday (12:00 – 14:30 / 19:00 – 22:30). Closed on Mondays.

GELATERIA MODO

If you’re looking for an ice cream that combines creativity with top-quality ingredients, Gelateria MODO is a must-visit.
They use carefully selected, certified ingredients, such as Bronte pistachios and Piedmont IGP hazelnuts.
As well as the great classics, MODO is famous for its sophisticated, seasonal flavour combinations. Don’t be surprised to find flavours such as Ricotta and Caramelised Figs, or fruit sorbets with intense, natural flavours (also perfect for those looking for vegan options).
The host’s tip: Try their granitas in summer or their artisanal ice cream cakes if you want to take a special dessert home!

📍 Address: Corso Francesco Ferrucci, 81/C, Turin. 🕒 Opening hours: Open Monday to Sunday (12:00 – 23:00).

OSTERIA LE RAMINE

If you’re looking for a refined culinary experience that’s deeply rooted in the local area, Osteria Le Ramine is definitely worth the trip. Although it’s a little further from Casa Femi than the other restaurants, the quality of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant will more than make up for the walk.
The restaurant welcomes you with its splendid exposed red brick vaults, typical of Turin’s historic architecture, creating a warm, elegant and intimate atmosphere. Special mention must go to their selection of cheeses. The display case is a feast for the eyes and the palate: you’ll find rare mountain cheeses and special maturations that showcase the region’s rich dairy heritage.
Host’s note: It is the ideal spot for a special dinner, a romantic evening, or for anyone who considers food an art to be savoured at leisure.

It’s the perfect place to stop for a delicious breakfast or to pick up a tray of traditional treats to enjoy at your leisure.

The brioches are always fresh and come in a range of fillings that are sure to put you in a good mood.
In the summer, if you fancy a delicious Sicilian granita, served with a proper brioche col tuppo, this is the place to go. The cannoli also deserve a special mention.
The atmosphere is cosy and unpretentious: here, it’s all about substance and flavour. It’s my go-to spot for a quick coffee or to order a cake for a special occasion. Highly recommended! 🥐☕️

PIOLA DA CELSO

‘Piola’ is the Piedmontese term for a typical neighbourhood tavern. Historically, it was the meeting place where people would gather for a glass of wine (the ‘quartino’), a game of cards and simple yet flavourful dishes. Today, taverns like “Da Celso” keep this spirit alive: chequered tablecloths, house wine by the glass, generous portions and an atmosphere where it’s easy to strike up a chat with your neighbours at the next table. It offers wholesome dishes at fair prices, staying true to the philosophy of “eating well without too many frills”.

📍 Address: Via Verzuolo, 40, Turin. 🕒 Opening hours: Open Monday to Wednesday (12:00 – 14:30); Thursday to Saturday (12:00 – 14:30 / 19:30 – 23:00). Closed on Sundays.

The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven, ensuring that unmistakable aroma and perfect results.
It is a favourite destination for those looking for a safe and tasty gluten-free pizza, without sacrificing the pleasure of a good night out.
